Germany's healthcare sector is grappling with significant challenges related to the accessibility and quality of services, which were particularly highlighted during the pandemic. Overwhelmed medical institutions struggle to deliver personalized care to every patient, leaving individuals, especially those dealing with mental health challenges or physical ailments, feeling unsupported and uncertain about their health journeys.
During my 6-month internship at FLUID Design, I created the MyHealth app, a conceptual digital healthcare companion designed to empower patients, healthcare professionals, and caregivers by providing a unified solution for seamless communication, access to medical records, and collaborative care.
In-depth interviews with five individuals from diverse backgrounds were conducted to explore their experiences with the German healthcare system.
In a workshop with six participants, we identified key areas of interest and features for a health application. We categorized and prioritized these features collaboratively and created wireframes, emphasizing a user-centered approach.

As the app is intended for use by individuals of varying age groups and health concerns, it was essential for it to cater to each person's unique needs. Therefore, a key focus of the app was to offer personalized, tailored experiences for every user.

In emergencies, a few seconds can be a matter of life or death. Sadly, 80% of emergencies go without first aid due to fear of making mistakes, costing lives that could have been saved. Easily accessible guides offer step-by-step assistance, boosting confidence in performing critical first aid, because the worst thing to do in an emergency is nothing.

Access users' Medical IDs to make informed medical decisions during emergencies
The app supports parents and caretakers responsible for others' well-being by providing easy account switching. This feature enables them to consolidate all health data in one place and maintain an overview of upcoming tasks.
MyHealth facilitates healthcare practitioners in comprehending each user's intricate medical history, as they can review patient data before appointments, enhancing the efficiency of consultations.
Manage access to your and your family members' files
MyHealth makes finding the right specialist in your area easy. People from diverse backgrounds can benefit from tailored search results, including language-based options. To save users and health practitioners time, the app allows for efficient appointment booking and allows users to provide a detailed description of their concerns in advance.
Find the perfect doctor for your concerns
Users can stay in touch with their healthcare practitioners to share information that does not necessitate an appointment. To further assist users, a chatbot is available for general health-related inquiries, freeing up healthcare practitioners' time.

A significant lesson for me was recognizing the importance of making the app accessible to all users, including those from various cultural backgrounds, those with disabilities or limited digital literacy. Designing for the public system also means considering numerous stakeholders and ensuring usability for people of all age groups throughout their life stages and with varying degrees of medical needs. To address this, I prioritized gathering input from individuals with diverse backgrounds to meet their varied needs in the application.
